Figure Drawing

I have been getting my feet wet again. Beginning figure drawing workshops at Michael Newberry's new studio. He has quickly found some wonderful models, and the workshops have a waiting list.

Here I have posted two longer poses. These help me to make a more studied understanding of the form. As much as I enjoy the quicker poses for my eye/hand coordination, the longer poses allow me to learn the form without the ticking of the clock in my mind.

These are both wonderful, Robin! Have you done much figure work before? If not, you are a natural.

Very limited figure drawing. Being an industrial designer it was not a part of the curriculum.

Beautiful women - I love the shading on the second one. How long were the poses?

I know that when you would post something from the figure class it would be exceptional. I love it! I'm impressed with the beautiful rendering of the hair.

Wonderful capture of light and form in that second drawing, Robin. Is there nothing you can't do!

Hi Shirley - These were two of the longer poses. Mostly they begin with 5 min, 10 min, 20, and sometimes there is even a siting of 1.5 hrs with breaks in between. I can't remember if one was 30 min, and the other 1 hr.
I should keep the time and the models name on each drawing for future reference.

df - the model that day was very pretty, and had an exotic look. Michael is always conscious of the lighting

Thank you Mary. I love the hair when it is messy. Then you can just let loose with the pencil.

Robyn - you are so very kind. I have always been nervous about figure drawing. I don't retain the "rules" in my head, so I rely on proportion and sight relationships.
