Summer days.... a few artist friends to share it with, and captivated by the angles.
I worked at not being tied to the details on this piece and enjoyed the play of colors in the light and shadows.

Those palms, line the street in front of my house, as they do many areas of SoCA. Quite majestic, and you wonder how do they stand up to the Santa Ana winds. I am always in awe as I see them stand so tall. You rarely see one being cut down.

In the Shadow of an Oak 19" x 14" charcoal

Last week I was able to get away for a short amount of time, and went to draw with my artist friends. I found shelter under and Oak tree, as it was one of our 100º days. At first I thought, now how am I going to draw with all of these shadows, I didn't bring an umbrella. Then the thought crossed my mind to draw the shadow. I love shadows, and how expressive they can be. This became a bit of a challenge, because the least bit of movement and the image was thrown completely off. I think it was a fun way to spend an hour.
(I think it was an oak... but I guess I should actually go back and check because structure doesn't appear oak like)
