A Day Out

This is the result of a day out with the California Arts Club. The first being by an area called The Casting Pond, where fishermen practice their fly fishing abilities. The second along a much loved path that runs the length of the Arroyo, with a view of the historic Pasadena Bridge.
The cherry on top, was Peter Adams, the clubs president, was giving away frames. He unloaded the back of his van, and was thrilled to have us cart them away. Now how nice was that.

Treasures - pastel

18x24"Charcoal on Rives BFK

I just picked this up from the show, and hung another in its place. Kind of like a two for one deal. I need to make sure everything is in its place and fix the final rendition. I am calling this a subfinal, because I need to take a better photo with the tripod. Planning to take this large, so the canvas is gessoed and ready to go.
How exciting! Don't you love to jump in with both feet?

20x25" pastel on Canson

Plum Paper! First pastel... I am pleased.
I used Nupastels on this, as I have a large beautiful set. One day I will treat myself to a large set of soft pastels, but for now I am now convinced I can learn with the supplies I have. I still have a few areas to complete, but I was excited to post something creative.

Laguna Beach

Last week, I had the pleasure of meeting Jeanette. She had come to CA to thaw out from the Newfoundland winter. What a joy to meet another "online" friend. If you haven't arranged such a meeting, I highly recommend it. Some of the nicest people in my life I have met this way.

I drove Jeanette, to see a southern Califonia beach. This certainly was not just a treat for her. I enjoyed it immensely. I picked Laguna Beach, because it has a unique quality about it, and is known as an artist's town.

Now, for as many times as I have been to this beach, I still can not get over it's beauty. I certainly do not make it down here as much as I did in my youth, but it has not aged. In fact, I think it only gets better and better. We took our shoes off, dug our toes into the sand. Briefly strolled over by the tide pools, and let the water brush the bottoms of our jeans. I made a promise to myself that a return trip was definitely in order. That water must be painted.

We could not have been given a prettier day. Yes, the sky was that blue, and the pictures do not do the color in the water justice. I was blown away by the blues, teals, greens. Is this color effecting me because my senses are much more aware now that I study color daily? I certainly hope so. I don't want it to end.

This is February folks. Do you see the surfers?

Oh, but please remember.. the traffic, "smog", congestion, earthquakes, wild fires...

A Bunch and a Pair

Took a break from my larger work, and gave a go on this little charcoal. Now back to my Treasures. I want to show it in a local show this month, so I am working extremely hard to make that happen.
