Circle of Light

In naming this piece, it was definitely about the light. However, as I gave it more thought, it made me aware of the circle of friends that have become my support. They actually do bring light to my day, and I know they are there for me over every bump in the road. I am inspired and encouraged with their words. I am picking up speed again, after a rough ride, and I look for the light around every turn. This circle of light I found on this day, is a symbol of that strength.

Planning my trip to New York in Sept., I am trying out all of my pastel gear that I am thinking of bringing. Much better to work out the kinks here, than in the middle of Central Park. So I took my french easel into Descanso Gardens, and found myself in the Oak Grove again. Same place as when I did this piece. It feels like this was once a sacred spot. Not sure if it matters if it was, as long as it feels so to me.

Beautiful and haunting. You've done so much with this scene though it's actually very simple.

Beautiful Robin! I love how you left some of the trees the color of the paper. I am glad you are picking up speed again and I am glad you are in my circle of friends. :)

Hi Robin,
I like the well balanced composition.. especially the correspondance between the sky and the light area on the ground.

Robin, IMO this has to be one of your best pastels so far! it evokes an amazing mood. i've been witness to similar scenes in the woods and i always get such a spiritual feeling when a shaft of light breaks thru and makes the forest floor glow. well done!

There really is something healing and lovely in your pastels on dark paper! It's something I haven't learned to do yet, but looking at your "Reflecting Pool" from June, and this one too, I literally relax into them. I mean, wouldn't it be wonderful to just step inside a drawing if people could do that? It's as if we as humans are able to see a quiet place inside seemingly everyday things. And when someone finds that and then records their journey, other people can go there too.

Oh my goodness, I am so far behind in my replies. I apologize.

Mary - thank you. This was a found jewel in the dry grass.

Jenny - you are very right. The paper has done much of the work. Sometimes I feel like I am cheating, and yet it says more.

Stacy - I feel likewise... two steps forward one step back. But I am hearing my soul speak once again in a happier tone.

Martin - If you can imagine a grove of oak trees and very few sky holes. I was lucky to capture one that left a beautiful sun note on the ground.

Billie - thank you for that heart felt response. You have been witness to this journey to learn something new, so I am appreciated that this one wins a note of approval. This space is definitely a sacred spot.

Margie - what a beautiful comment. That is a wonderful thought... to be able to climb in a painting. I know exactly what you mean. I would love to be able to climb inside a color or two. You have blessed me with your words, and I know now that what I am learning and trying to achieve is all coming together.
