Malaga Cove
12"x16" Oil on linen panel
This painting was done on a cliff over looking the Pacific Ocean. Jerry and I drove down to Palos Verdes on Sunday. In the attempt to get set up and be done before noon, I scouted out a spot, said, "Let's do it...", and Jerry went on his bike ride while I worked. I love the ocean and plan to paint there more often.
Each step upward makes me feel stronger and fit for the next step.

Fantastic! Love the rich colors and the strong lines. I think you most certainly should paint the ocean as often as you can -- you really capture the feel of the place!
Robin this is beautiful. You've captured the drop and the distance perfectly, not to mention that fantastic light...Gorgeous!
this is spectacular robin, the sense of height is dizzying, very dramatic, love the lone tree on the top
Linda - that is one thing CA has is rich colors. What a great way we artists have for giving gratitude for this richness. Thanks.
Anita - Hello my friend. Thank you for stopping by. Hope your trip was as wonderful as you anticipated it would be. I am glad that you like this. Wish we could do it together sometime.
Rob - Thanks for coming by. I am glad that I was able to achieve the vertical drop. Yes that tree was perched out on the edge of that cliff, but then again so are some of the homes. It is fascinating to see what risks people will take to live as close to the waters edge as possible.
Wow Robin! This is beautiful! Absolutely stunning. You have definitely captured the light and the sense of space. Could you have imagined painting this a year ago?? Your artwork is just fabulous these days!
WOW! This is stunning! I would LOVE to be able to create works like this!!!!! Have you really only been painting a year or so???
WOW Robin, this is amazing. You've got a lot of talent!!!
Stacy - a year ago I could only dream and hold the belief that it would all click. For me the enjoyment is what brings it all together. Thank you, I look forward to your new work.
Jan - thank you for you nice comments. I began painting with oil, last February. I have painted in water based mediums prior to that, but never did plein air before a year ago. It is a new experience which I am throughly enjoying.
Martin - what a nice thing to say. I have a commitment to practice so I slowly move in the direction of growth.
Robin! you've outdone yourself with this one! this takes me back years ago when a friend and i drove the Medencino coast. this scene was a familar sight. Bravo!
Billie - yes the coastline is quite spectacular. I love it up north around Mendocino. I am glad that you had the chance to take that drive. There are some areas around where you live that I would like to visit.
Robin this painting is fantastic! You really captured the water and cliff so beautifully. Makes me wish I lived closer so I could see the place for myself. Gorgeous views.
Hi Robin,
really great work.. congratulations to this wonderful piece
Martin
Bonny - I wish you could see it too. They are gorgeous views. I appreciate your nice comments.
Hello Martin - thank you I have been enjoying your work lately too
It all comes together in this piece, Robin! Height, perspective, shapes and that rich color! Someone said dizzying and they were right!!
Mike
Robin you have captured the CA coastline with grace and ease. The painting looks like like it just flowed from your brush. Beautiful!
Wow! This is so beautiful, Robin. All your Arroyo / San Gabriel scenes have been a joy to see, but this ocean scene really shows off what you've been working on. Yes, do more! hugs to you.
I was pleased with how this played out Mike. Thanks for your kind words.
Toni - not sure if it is flowing with ease just yet. Extreme concentration, since I am always mentally exhausted afterwards. Sure wish that burned calories. Thanks so much
Wendee - such a diverse area we live in isn't it. Fun to jump from Mtns. to Sea in an hour. Yes I can go back to enjoying the ocean without basking in the sun slathered in babyoil. Oh gosh... did I actually do that? I guess I have always tried to seek color somehow.
HAHA Robin - Did you mean me when you said Anita - its the other Anita from WC who commented before.
Yes had a great trip but glad to be back.
Super piece! You are so hard-working and focused. I envy you that. I get led astray far too easily!
Wow Robin, I think this is your best Plein Air and it is not easy to pick a best one. I love it!
This is truly beautiful, Robin!! Great perspective, distance and colouring!
I am so sorry Anita (Davis), so use to seeing your name as Nitsa.
Anita - and here I thought you would tear up your tickets and stay in spain for the rest of the year.
One foot in front of the other my friend. Slow and steady.
Mary -Thank you. The more I do, the more I understand. Can't wait to do one with you.
Serena - thank you. I am pleased with how the colors came through in the original.
What can I write after all these comments. I like it too! And isn´t it amazing how a great painting gets easily recognized? The simplicity in composition and the color concept are so strong in this piece.
Stefan - I am just honored that you stopped by. It is interesting how that works isn't it? I am so glad that what others like are the works that ring true to me as well. It would be most difficult if it was the other way around.
Oh my! This is such a beautiful piece. The movement of the waves, the deep, rich colors, and the hazy horizon all come together to make a fantastic work of art. Very well done! The view of the cliff just keeps your eye moving up and around within the picture. Amazing!
This is an exquisite painting Robin! Imlove your capturing of the ocean down below and especially the waves near the shore, together with the stream of light hitting the beach...beautiful.
