What makes you come alive?

Don't ask yourself what the world needs; ask yourself what makes you come alive.
And then go and do that. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.

What a wise quote. Much easier said than done for me...

Lovely work!

Very well done. Pastels? This is a real pleasure to look at.

Robin, I love, love, love the quote!! In fact I'm going to write it down and hang it above my art desk.

I also like the purple sneakers. My daughter would like to have a pair like that since purple is her favorite color. So I'm just left wondering if the shoes are yours. After all, you're pretty "hip" for a mom. ;)

This had me fooled at first. I thought it was a photograph! What skilled use of pastels; this drawing is really so good and you're right, we all need more "purple sneakers" in our lives!

Dave - Yes for some it isn't always easy to drop that which is a necessity of life. Yet it is easier to move in that direction, a little at at time, once we know what it is that we love.

Casey - yes it is pastel. I appreciate you kind comment.

Stacy - I do believe our daughters have something in common. These are my daughters sneakers. She has a passion for purple. And yes... the quote was rather fitting.

Teri - yes very simple, I dropped the shoes on the floor, sat down with my pastels nearby and grabbed the light.
Fun way to work, because it was so simple. TY

Ronell - you are kind, no photo though. Drawing the light from life.

Billie - So do yourself a favor and paint your sneakers. It is rather fun. Thanks for searching them out.

Oh my gosh Robin what a delight to come to your blog and find three wonderful posts. Love those sneakers. Upon first sight they reminded me of a book I read called the 'The Traveling Funeral' If you ever get your hands on this book you will see why. Plus the quote is so appropriate for the book also.

GREAT amazing and fantastic pastel painting of the sneakers! And purple ... what fun!

Felicity - thank you for your compliment. Light is what it is all about isn't it.

Toni - awwww gosh....appreciated. Just when I think life has tripped me in every direction, I am gifted with comments like yours. I will check out the book, because I believe in synchronicity.

Linda - yes one teen that lives with me is nuts over purple. Fun to draw a slice of life occasionally.

this is gorgeous, big fan of your work and i do art for the sake of art too. aspire to reach (or even come close to!) your level of expertise some day. i'm also thinking of getting a local artist to mentor me too, thanks for sharing =)

p.s. love the quote you posted with this, it resonates very much with me

Laura - I highly recommend a mentor. Don't think you have to have one local. Mine lives 4,000 mi. away, and through the use of digital images, and the telephone, I receive such inspiration, hope, clarity, and focus. He also helps artist in Mexico, Saudia Arabia fulfill their dreams.
You have touched me with your words.

Like em lots!! Great light... great colors.

On the quote.....
I once had a snooty Dr. say to me...

"you've never saved anyones life!!"

My answer....

"With respect Dr. that's true ... but art gives people a reason to live"

Cheers... Andrew

Cheers back Andrew!
.... that is does. Much appreciated.

Hi Robin! Better late than never, right? Sorry I missed this pastel. I assume the ground color is the background which I think works perfectly to tie the brightness of the sneakers and the warm sunny yellow color. Very 3 dimensional and totally believable. I could step right into those shoes! Lovely handling of the pastels. I'm happy to have found your blog.
