The Pair

I drew this tonight in a 6"x8" Strathmore sketchbook I just bought. Better paper and cheaper than the bound sketchbooks. They are cute and just as chic. The 400 series loved the charcoal. I am going to fashion an elastic band to keep it shut, and I will be in business on the run. Now... back to my work.

Beautiful! I can't even fathom how you achieved such volume in those pears - and did all of this in one evening!

Shirley - the volume knowledge comes from being taught to draw cones, cylindars and cubes before anything else. Learning to really see what happens when light hits these objects is the key.

Jeanette - I think you would like these pads, Jeanette. However they do come in smaller and larger sizes. Easy to cut out and frame if you get a winner.

Stacy- HI! Yes I am enjoying the charcoal. It is such an ancient tool, and yet with todays manufacturing possibilties it is brought into the 21st century in pencil form. Loveing the depth that can be achieved.

Robin now you got me wanting to try charcoal. Your play on light is wonderful. There is a romance about black and white drawings.

So nicely rendered, Robin. I'm amazed at how luminous this is---didn't know you could get that with charcoal!

John - I agree, this RI was nicely set up. I am glad that I have captured it as well.

Toni - I hope that you do give it a go. So versitile, and yet so basic. No fuss, no muss, with B&W.

Robyn - Truly when I began with this medium, I was prepared to be challenged by the residue. However, it has proved me wrong.

Laura - Thank you Laura. Yes, charcoal, when coaxed can give quite amazing results. A depth that is lacking in graphite.
