WIP on Thursday

Working to capture the light, particle by particle...
I like to see the progress I have from the last post to the current one. Hope some of you do too. Sometimes, you can work for hours and not know where you have made any changes. I will not allow anyone to ever call this a hobby again.

Fascinating - one taken horizontal in the shade, the other vertical in the shade. I am sure my work would benefit from using a tripod. For the final I will see if this helps the clarity.

Muffin

6"x8" oil on panel

Out in Eaton Canyon again and the mish-mash of brush did not grab me, at all. So I decided to hold off eating my zucchini-walnut muffin, and paint it instead. It sat on the Starbuck's bag, which had a great green stripe along the edge.
I attempted Michael's direction of finding the color in the shadow, and I toned the panel with that blue-violet. It was a fun way to paint.
I have not cropped this image, because I painted it in my new Guerilla Paintbox. I bought the larger size so that I can paint as big as 12 x 16". I love it!

Eaton Canyon

I arrived late to our painting site yesterday, so it took me a while to settle in. After putting the values down on my panel, I was seeing the beginnings of an abstract. I decided to follow the feeling and perhaps did not stop soon enough. I realized I was being too literal, and I called it a day.

One of the nicest comments I have ever received on WetCanvas:

I like it when you 'close your eyes and sing.' Kept looking at this piece over the last couple of days and it just stuck with me, it was a pleasant 'haunting.'

Hope you continue in your 'loose brush' style, it's signatory and speaks of a great deal of talent. This piece is reminiscent of Cezanne's planes of color... and, most importantly is an instant, visual barrage of LANDSCAPE SCENE... through your eyes.

It's like you command us to see this...where, if one walked past the scene in real life, it may have been totally unnoticed. I love it.

Let's see more of your work.

Back to the Drawing Board

Charcoal 15in x 22in Rives BFK

LINE, FORM, AND SPACE - you can't have one without the other

1. Rethink title... what is big?
2. Define the leaves as the darkest darks
3. Pull ribbon into the midtones and refine certain areas
4. Yank the table cloth towards the viewer
5. Ellipses!
6. Push curtain back a mile
7. Use "trickery" on the vase
8. "Nuke" the highlights out of the pillow.
9. Squint more
10. Consider new piece that says "BIG"

Dreaming Big WIP

It is always good to double check perspective, even when you trust your eyes.

Guess I need to get the tools out to draw these ellipses. I am not pulling them off freehand on this one. Constrast? Need to bump it up. Okay... back to work.
Who said Art was easy?

Featured Artist

I was invited to be on a blog that is centered around creativity in notebooks.
Having accepted the invitation, today I am the featured artist.
It is interesting to see the image they chose to post.
The sketch is titled, "Confusion".
