Goals

Knowing my goal has been one of the greatest gifts given to me this past year. It has been a tough year for many reasons, and yet I always have my future in view. I can see it. So I search for ways to guide me closer, and keep my focus. Sometimes focus can be so difficult when LIFE gets in the way.
I found a gem today from a preview of a book called: Eat That Frog!

So I thought I would share these with you. Just in case you are making plans to move mountains in 2007. We all have read self help books. Been there, done that. It is sometimes good to be reminded once again.

Here's how to make it happen:

1. One of the very worst uses of time is to do something very well that need not be done at all.
2. Write your goal down.
3. Set a deadline on your goal
4. Make a list of everything you can think of that you are going to have to do to achieve your goal.
5. Organize the list into a plan.
6. Take action on your plan immediately.
7. Resolve to do something every single day that moves you toward your major goal. Never miss a day.

As in my case, there just may be smaller goals within the larger picture.
So make a list of 10 goals as if they have happened.
Choose one that would have the greatest impact on your life.
Write it on a separate sheet of paper and follow the above....

Come back and share your goal with me. We can encourage each other.

Your enthusiasm is infectious. 2007 will find me chasing my goals in earnest.

Hi Mary! I get in return as much as I share. I believe the universe works that way.

Jeanette - I have no doubt that you will be successful. You were blessed with the gift, and others are bound to want to receive it. We are all stepping into the unknown, but risks are what it takes. You've just got to stick your neck out there.

That is a great post. Yes, we can encourage each other. That is important, I think.

By the way, your work is beautiful.
Some beautiful work here and interesting blog.

I have that book somewhere - thank you for inspiring me to re-read it!

Tell me Casey - do you like it? Some of the information is in other goal oriented books, or you can find online. However, any information is definitely worth a refresher course.

Robin Neudorfer said...

William - can't wait to see what you do with the info.

Doris - thank you so much for your very kind words. I plan on it only getting better...so watch out 2007!

Hi Robin
be carefull with goal setting..it might work :). I use a mindmapping computer programm in combination with a time planning system for ca. 15 years now in my main business. In art I have applied it 2 years ago. The little pamphlet you kindly requested from me was written more or less on 2 subsequent afternoons with the help of that mind mapping program. I have a continous masterplan for my activities. As to art I am booked out until end of 2008.
The very good thing is that my mind is free for creative work as every thing is layed down precisely and I can rework it any time I want.
A tremendous help is a handwritten diary I keep with notes on painting and drawing, also writing down conclusions from the many books I have read in the past 12 months. Also I keep track of exhibitions I have visited making notes especially about inspiring things found and ideas that come to me on that occasions. These notes are a kind of parallel "sketches" to my sketch-and drawing books. Similar to my sketchbooks, which are slowly mounting into a inexhaustible quarry of image ideas, these notes develop to a major mental support. Making notes of successes I have achieved and writing down the good feelings enforce the effect tremendous.
Of course I don`t achieve all the goals I set and often there is also a delay. On the other hand things come to me unexpectedly too. A main tool for me is also to overcompensate negative expectations or fear. I write down everything that can go wrong and try to imagine in detail what might happen(we are al experts in that discipline). After that I write down the ideal counter part the super best result I can dream off by turning the bad things into their opposite. From almost every weakness, real or not, a strength can be developed.
Merry christmas and happy new year to everybody.

The comment above is from me - for some odd reason I got listed as anonymous.

Martin - you are always an inspiration. You are the second artist that has mentioned this mind mapping. I need to find out more about it. I just might email you to chat. I also like your suggestions about the diary, and the neg to a pos. Good stuff. Putting aside paths that have not helped me in the past and picking up new ideas. Thank you for yours.

Robin -- I love this post! What a wise list of thoughts about goal setting, especially number one! (seems like I could apply that one to a lot of things I do EVERY SINGLE DAY!)
:-D Thanks for this!
