Alone in Santa Barbara

I found myself painting alone today. Jerry went for a bike ride, and I spent far too much energy searching for a spot away from the maddening crowds. I was not bothered, and had much, too much, fun.
I chose a simple view. Found my values, created my composition, which isn't all that easy with a moving target. Can't believe all the colors that were popping up to greet me. What a delight!
I think we have the most beautiful coastline in the world. The unfortunate part is that too many others agree with me.

Beautiful painting. I like the soft pastels. Did you paint this outside?

Anna - Yes I was outdoors. I was on a cliff underneath a very large tree, next to a fence looking at this gorgeous view. Smelling the air, hearing the crashing of the surf, children playing below to my left. Interesting afterwards, I noticed a sailboat race to the left of my view, that I was not even aware of.

Vivian - Thank you, So many more colors cried out to me this time. Interesting how they pop out when you are open to seeing them.

Jane - When we met in Union Station I had barely begun my journey back into the art world. It is like a dam has been broken. So much has been waiting to be released. Thanks for takeing the time to look over my work, and I do hope the opportunity to sketch together again, comes in the near future.

I think we deserve a trip west to paint. Send the boys off for a hike. Talk to you when I get back. Don't get too wild on Tues.
